Find your family records in India
Indian Archive helps families identify, research and preserve traditional family-register records — locating the strongest route, transcribing and translating what's found, and delivering a lasting family archive.

Researchers working with the original record holders, on the ground in India.
What you receive
Every family search delivers a documented archive
Documented centre search
A fieldworker searches the recommended traditional register centre and records exactly what was reviewed.
Transcription of relevant pages
Where entries are found, the relevant register pages are photographed and transcribed.
English translation
Devanagari, Gurmukhi and other traditional scripts are translated into clear English.
Family tree and timeline
A reviewed family tree and a chronological timeline built from the evidence found.
Verified search trail
A clear record of every centre, register and page reviewed — so you can see what was and was not found.
Permanent digital archive
Secure downloads of your PDF report, photographs, translations and any interview recordings.
If we find no matching record
You are paying for a documented professional search, not a guaranteed discovery. If no matching family register is found, you still receive a verified search outcome that explains exactly what was searched, what family information was used, the centre and registers reviewed, and any recommended next steps — plus any transcribed evidence gathered along the way. The core search fee is non-refundable once field research has begun; the £100 register entry/update credit (Find & Update packages) is refunded or applied to an additional approved centre search when no update work takes place.
Three steps from what you remember to a lasting archive.
- 1
Tell us about your family
Complete the guided questionnaire with what you know about your ancestry — village, district, state, gotra, surname and family tree.
- 2
We identify and research the strongest route
Indian Archive assesses the information and identifies the most credible traditional register centre. Your package includes one recommended centre.
- 3
Receive your documented family archive
We organise the research evidence, transcription, translation and family tree into a lasting archive you can pass on.
If your completed questionnaire identifies a second genuinely credible centre, you may optionally add it for the displayed fixed top-up. You can also continue with the included primary centre.

A family history we thought had been lost
The Indian Archive began after a deeply personal journey to Haridwar revealed generations of family history preserved inside a traditional handwritten register.
Recording a death — and updating the wider family lineage.
Recording a death and updating the wider family lineage was traditionally part of many families' visits to Haridwar and other pilgrimage-register centres. Families unable to travel may still choose to research and preserve that family record.
No travel to India is required to begin.
Answers to the four most-asked questions.
- Do I need to know the correct centre?
- No. Your questionnaire tells us about your ancestry and we identify the most credible register centre for your family. If you're unsure, start with the free centre check.
- What happens if no matching record is found?
- You still receive a documented professional search outcome — a full record of what was reviewed, where and by whom. You're paying for the search, not a guaranteed discovery.
- How long does research take?
- Typical research completes within 6–10 weeks. Complex, specialist or multi-centre cases may take longer.
- Is a register update guaranteed?
- No. A register entry or update depends on identifying the appropriate register holder, the evidence available and the register holder accepting the family connection. The Find My Family Register + Add or Update an Entry package includes a conditional £100 credit used only when new-entry or update work begins; if no entry or update work can begin, the unused credit is refunded or, with your approval, applied towards an additional approved centre search.
